The field of outsourcing has been, for a number of years now, one of the primary forces that drive the economy of Philippines today. The increasing number of investors coming here to establish BPO companies has provided jobs for a lot of Filipinos. Call centers offering jobs like customer service and market research is up on the list of services being offered here. These attract fresh graduates and those who shift jobs be of because of the attractive compensation packages.
Indeed the country has been one of the leading providers of outsourcing services. This is mainly because we have a good command of the English language that is almost comparative to those of the native speakers. Though the quality of our technology still has some areas for more development, the call center sites strive to give the best quality to the clients. These make us, the Philippines one of the top choices for investors.

A big competition for Philippines with regards to BPOs is India. They speak English at the same time are more equipped technologically speaking. However, what gives the Philippines its edge is its native-like English skills and the patience with dealing with people online.
Another factor is the cost. Labor cost in the Philippines is comparably low. Products are cheaper which gives the company a lower cost for the operations. Investors continue to provide BPO jobs here since they get a good quality service for cheaper prices. They can use their resources to its maximum level.Lately however, it is no longer the lower cost that attracts investors to Philippines. The increase in the investors’ confidence in Philippine outsourcing is owed in part to the higher-end outsourcing services such as web design, software development, animation, medical transcription, legal services and others. Although a bigger percentage of this is still its call center services, the Filipinos have begun to equip themselves with skills to globally compete in terms of creative design, para-legal services, accounting and finance. |

The government has little intervention except for the support it gives the companies. The Philippine government in general is very supportive to foreign investors and exerts effort on enhancing our foreign relations. Establishing a business here is not hard for investors. In fact, the government provides for foreigners to encourage them to invest in Philippines more. If the trend continues, and a supply of highly qualified workforce does not run out, the Philippines will continue to be one of the leaders in outsourcing. As predicted, the BPO in the country will earn US$ 11 billion in 2010.
Majority of the call centers in the Philippines are in Manila, Cebu City, and Bacolod City. It has now spread to other cities like Baguio City, Legazpi City, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo City, Dumaguete, Davao and Dagupan. In a few years time, all major cities in the Philippines will have its own BPO industry as a major driving force in their local economy.
