| Outsourcing: the latest trend |
Gone are the days when companies employ staff assigned mainly for mundane tasks such as answering phone calls about customer complaints’. This is due to the presence of outsourcing. In this times where technology such as the Internet rules, everyone becomes an interactive player in globalization. The United States and Europe does not seem as far from the Philippines as it was before. Every day, agents communicate with people from other countries where their companies hire services in the country. In layman’s terms, a company outsources people when its functions or operations are being done or supervised by an external party. This external party does services that the company’s staff used to do. In outsourcing, the company and the external party are bound by the agreement that the company will pay for the services that the external party has provided. This external party will in turn, try by all means to provide the best service they can give. What are the reasons why companies outsource their services? One main reason is to cut costs without sacrificing the work quality. Countries where labor cost is low and yet have good if not exceptional technology and skills usually benefit from this outsourcing. It could also open a window of opportunity for companies later on to expand its business to wherever it has outsourced its services. As they already have their “presence” in the country, a smooth transition is a big possibility if not an expectation. The two parties involved will also be able to learn new things as they both have to have an understanding of how things work from each of their business end. From business culture to norms in society, companies and the external party are able to open their eyes to these.
