| Things to arm yourself with to be an influential person and entrepreneur |
 Each and every person wants to be important. Everyone desires to have an impact to the group he belongs to or to the people he associates with. As an entrepreneur, it is important for one to have this power. The influence he has to his clients, his vendors and his employees is a big factor to his success in entrepreneurship. To have the power to influence these people on how they act, think and feel towards his business is an entrepreneur’s aim.But how does one become an influential person? How does one get that power to make someone act, think and feel the way you want them to? Is the power to influence people an innate ability or can this be acquired? If the latter is true, how then can one be able to have this ability to create an effect on a group? Are there ways on how to have this? The answer – yes! Through time, you can do things that will aid in your aim to be a powerful owner of your business. There are some things that will help you gain that ability to influence the people that you associate with in your business operations. It is all within you to achieve this. Begin with your goal. What is it that you really want to happen? “To be an influential owner of my company” is not enough. Be specific. Make it measurable. Goals are easier to achieve when they are easy to measure. “To increase my revenues to 20% after 6 months” can steer you better in your business than ‘”to have more profit”. Goals give you direction. So when you know where it is exactly that you want to go, and then you can start thinking of how to get there.
Next thing you need to take care of is how to achieve these goals. Different people, different personalities and attitudes, different level of intellect, different styles- the question is: what is your style? You have to identify the techniques that you need to use in order to achieve these goals. You just do not say in front of your workers during a meeting “I expect production will increase by 20% this quarter. If this is not achieved, I will be forced to terminate some people”. Perhaps your workers might be intimidated enough so they will work hard. Who would want to be terminated? However, instilling fear among your workers or team members will not give you the right kind of power. Although intimidation gives some results, it will not be effective if we think long-term. You have to apply a series of techniques that will help you in influencing people. The techniques that you will use will go together with the resources that I have mentioned previously. If you have the skills in dealing with people well, then establishing rapport is a technique that is easy for you to use. There are a lot of techniques that you can use. These are just the basics that are actually taken for granted. We will talk about these in another article. The important thing for you to remember is to master these techniques well.
