| Women traits that are advantageous for entrepreneurship |
There have many articles written on the common traits of a successful entrepreneur. Truly, both men and women entrepreneurs share common traits that make them succeed in their chosen business. We, however, cannot ignore the differences between both. Men tackle problems differently from how women tackle it. Handling situations, relationship, viewing things and they way they think, men and women differ. Although there are more men entrepreneurs, we cannot fully say that they make better business people than women. Women too have their own strength that they can use to their advantage in order to become successful in entrepreneurship. Instinct or gut feelingIn terms of decision-making, women rely on their instinct. This is very useful. Business people need this. You have a business idea and you just know that it will work. Other people will dissuade you from doing it for many reasons. Your gut feeling however tells you that it will just work so you go ahead anyways.Of course, risks should be calculated. But you cannot wait too long. You cannot get all the rational reasons just so you can start the business. Women entrepreneurs, after some careful thought, of course, just listen to their inner voice. What’s good is they almost always find themselves right.
Social networksWomen easily make friends with strangers they meet anywhere. This is probably because they easily strike a conversation between them. At times, when they talk about something they like, it is quite difficult for them to hide their excitement and enthusiasm. This might be something husbands complain about. However, women entrepreneurs can definitely use this as an advantage. This is free marketing. A mother makes jams in her home, packages them there and sells them. She meets a woman in the grocery store who happens to know someone who owns a convenience store. She convinces this new found “friend” to introduce her to this convenience store owner so she can sell her stuff there. What’s more, this new found friend actually belongs to an organization and she promises to tell her friend about it. A very effective yet at no cost marketing that her newly started business needs. Nurturing sideThe mother instinct is another advantage for women entrepreneurs. They will see their business as their “baby” and will give attention and nurture to it just like they do to their children. They take care of each of the relationships they establish-between clients, between suppliers, among employees and everyone else.Establishing trust and a solid relationship between all the people involved in a business is very essential. This holds true especially for start ups. As entrepreneurs, this is something that women do not need to exert much effort on. EmpathyTo those who think that businesses should be run with purely rationality, this trait of women can be considered a weakness. However, this is actually an advantage. As entrepreneurs, they understand what their clients want. They can see themselves in their clients’ situation so they extend more effort in listening and addressing their concerns. She sees the other people in her company as members of her own family. This empathic side of a woman comes into play when she leads her team. She involves them in her decision-making. A team that is involved in any undertaking will develop the sense of belongingness and will see the company that they belong to as their family. Employees like these are definitely an asset. The world of business is dominated by the male specie. However, times are changing. More and more women also venture in operating their own businesses. Of course, entrepreneurs in general manifest traits that make them succeed. In this article, however, I am just shedding light into some traits that are innate in women only. These together with their other entrepreneurial traits will make them succeed.
